Treatment of Achilles Tendonitis (Calf Pain/ Tightness) in Runners in Huntington Beach CA

Treatment of Achilles Tendonitis (Calf Pain/ Tightness) in Runners in Huntington Beach CA

As the weather gets nicer we have seen more runners out training for their respective races.  I love running just as much as the next guy but I think I experienced more injuries during running than in cycling or playing baseball combined.  Fact is, running produces more impact than other endurance sports and more overuse injuries will result.

One injury common to runners is Achilles tendonitis/ pain, calf tightness and shin splints.  Many times runners will come in with an injury on one side and not the other, which begs the question of why not the other ankle?  Many times the answers to this question can be found by movement analysis or video gait analysis.  One focuses on the strength and movement of the respective joint of the lower body and the other at how the body moves in during the sport.

There are three main power sources in the lower limb propelling you forward when running: the gluts, quads and the calf.  All three of the these major muscles groups share the act running propulsion (not swing phase of the leg), which consists of extension of the hip, knee and plantarflexion of the ankle.  Granted there is a little bit more to it than this but this makes it easier to understand why your calf or Achilles might have started acting up over the recent weeks.

If you have all of these three areas working in unison they all share the workload.  If one area is not doing its job then the others have to work harder causing overuse.  Lately I have been finding patients with Achilles tendonitis have had a lack of function of the gluteus maximus or lack of hip range of motion.  Many times looking at the video analysis of their gait you can see abnormally dominant vertical motion, from excessive work from the quads and calf.

Although Active Release Techniques® is the best at ridding the painful tissue of scar tissue, in my opinion, but fact of the matter is the problem will have a tendency of returning if the primary gait issue is not corrected as well.

If you are experiencing Achilles tendon issues I would strongly recommend seeking the care of an Active Release provider who is well trained in analyzing gait as well.

P3 Sports Care in Huntington Beach has been able to successfully treat and cure arm numbness in as quickly as 4 treatment using Active Release Techniques®.

Over the past few weeks we have had a inflow of patients with arm numbness (also called "pinched nerves"), mostly down the back of the arm and forearm.  I have treated many people in the past with the same condition but it is surprising to hear patients talk about how they have tried so many different types of treatment and nothing has worked.  It is also surprising to hear how many friends and family they could name off the top of their heads who have the same problem!

Normally these types of conditions, traditionally diagnosed as carpal tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome and radial nerve entrapments, can be resolved within 4 treatments, give or take a few treatments.  Active Release Techniques is the main focus of our treatment in these conditions in addition to chiropractic care and rehabilitation exercises if needed.

As stated, most of these people tried many treatments prior to coming in to P3 Sports Care in Huntington Beach.  When they come in and hear a rational solution to the problem they are so excited and some have even cried.  A few of these patients have been seeking answers for years!

Basically what it comes down to is what is the main cause of the arm numbness?  Where is the nerve being entrapped?  Which of the major nerves of the brachial plexus are the culprits?  Are there spots of multiple nerve entrapments?  All of these questions can be answered with a proper exam and can be corrected permanently with correct treatment.

If you have been dealing with arm pain/ numbness I would strongly suggest seeking the care of an Active Release Provider if you have been experiencing arm numbness or pain.  Normally if there are no positive effects to treatment of your condition with a short time spand you will be referred out for the proper medical care.

DR. SEBASTIAN GONZALES, ACTIVE RELEASE DOCTOR, MOVES HIS PRACTICE TO HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA

For immediate release:
DR. SEBASTIAN GONZALES, ACTIVE RELEASE DOCTOR, MOVES HIS PRACTICE TO HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA 3/26/10 – There is a new chiropractor in town! Starting his practice in Orange, Ca, Dr. Sebastian Gonzales eventually pulled up his roots and transplanted his booming practice to sunny Huntington Beach, CA. “Its just where I spend most of my time. I live here, I train here, and I grew up here. My patients come from all over but there many of them are from right around Huntington Beach. The move sure made lots of them happy.”

Dr. Gonzales provides a unique chiropractic experience you can only fully appreciate when you visit his office. He combines chiropractic care with specific corrective exercise programs and Active Release Technique® (ART®) soft tissue treatment. “I base my whole practice around the fact that many sports injuries have a soft tissue component, as well as a joint component. Many overuse injuries seen in endurance athletes and golfers are from a build-up of scar tissue and fibrosis. This build-up leads to weakness, muscle spasms, tightness and tears. Active Release® is perfect for releasing this scar tissue and setting the stage for strengthening of the tissue.”

“I feel one of the most common mistakes made with these type of cases is people try to self manage it and strengthen on their own without setting the stage for effective muscle contraction. Think about it. Wouldn’t it be better to correct the damaged tissue first before you start to strength? If you try to strengthen without correcting/ fixing the tissue first, many times the body will use other muscle to accomplish a task, leading to more injuries.”

Constantly giving back to the community, he has donated is time working on the medical team at various race in the Huntington Beach area, including the Surf City Marathon and Ironman® triathlons, as well as fundraising for the American Cancer Society and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Dr. Gonzales has worked with athletes ranging from professional to amateur and has found great success with his style of care. Through his treatment and the way he interacts with patients you can tell he has their best interest in mind.

P3 Sports Care moves to Huntington Beach CA

For immediate release:
P3 SPORTS CARE RELOCATES TO HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA, PROVIDING A PERMINANT SOLUTIONS TO SPORTS INJURIES, WITH CHIROPRACTIC CARE AND ACTIVE RELEASE®

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA 3/26/10 – P3 Sports Care in now in Huntington Beach. Relocating from Orange, CA, P3 Sports Care in now in position to serve more athletes with a more central location.

P3 specializes in treatment and rehabilitation of trialtheles and golfers with overuse injuries due to overtraining or just saving their bodies from the brutal nature of their sports. Chiropractic care is only one of the serves offered, but there is much more such as Active Release Technique®, massage therapy, and specific rehabilitation programs.

Although many of the athletes are injured when they first come into P3, their injuries resolve quickly and a new goal is established; what caused the problem in the first place?

This is what makes P3 different; looking at movement patterns and muscular imbalances is their specialty. “When most people think of chiropractic care, they think of joints and spinal conditions. This is not the case with P3. Shoulder, arms, legs, and ankle all respond very quickly to our style of chiropractic care and Active Release Technique®. Many times overuse injuries develop because one muscle is not functioning properly. This lack of function will cause other muscle groups to ‘work overtime,’ making them prone to micro trauma and scarring. We target the underlying problem and not just treat the patient’s symptoms,” explains Dr. Sebastian Gonzales.

Pain relief is only one of the ”P”s in P3 Sports Care, so what do the other two mean? “Performance Enhancement and Prevention of Injury” As stated before, P3 looks at athletic motion and where overuse may occur. “Many times it’s very easy to pick out injuries before they occur,” states Dr. Gonzales. “People often don’t look but once they start to understand how easy it is they often send in their kids and the whole sports team for performance screenings, so it’s not just for adults.”

About P3 Sports Care

P3 Sports Care was founded by Dr. Sebastian Gonzales DC, CSCS. Over the course of seven years, the shift to treatment of triathletes and golfer was gradual, but still much of the practice consists of everyday Joes and their families; hence the motto “Where the Athletes send their Families.” Dr. Sebastian Gonzales has treated everyone from professional athletes to grandparents of eight. His vision for P3 is to make it into a full service sports center with Active Release® doctors, trainers and coaches all in the same facility. Ironman Oceanside 70.3 2010 Press Release

For immediate release:
DR. SEBASTIAN GONZALES, HUNTINGTON BEACH CHIROPRACTOR, TRAVELS TO OCEANSIDE, CA TO TREAT IRONMAN 70.3 TRIATHLETES

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA 3/26/10 – For those unfamiliar with triathlon, it is a series of physical challenges: swimming, biking, and running; all of which are one after another, under the pressure of the clock. The pinnacle of all triathlons is the full Ironman race, but in California we only get half of that, 70.3 mile Ironman. Oceanside hosted the race this year and conditions were near perfect.

This is a favorite race for many of the Southern California locals, especially from San Diego, Irvine, and Huntington Beach. “Orange County was definitely represented at this race but San Diego beat them out as usual,” stated Dr. Sebastian Gonzales, an Active Release Provider and Chiropractor in Huntington Beach. “We traveled to Tempe late last year to work the full Ironman and it was much more serious. The athletes seemed much more relaxed and focused on the fun of this race.”

Dr. Gonzales, the owner of P3 Sports Care, came down to Oceanside to treat triathletes the two days before the race to get out the last “kinks and spasms.” He and two other Active Release® chiropractors could be found at the side of Demo Days, treating in trade for donations for Team in Training. “We don’t like to charge people at the race, but if they are willing to donate to a good cause that is fine with us. We are here more to build awareness of ART®,” replied Dr. Gonzales.

“I plan on racing in one of these before too long, but currently my wife and I are training with Team in Training for the century ride in Lake Tahoe,” claimed Dr. Gonzales. “Fundraising in definitely a greater challenge than I expected so that and the training are taking a lot of my focus right now. It’s great to hear many of these athletes actually claim Team in Training was the turning point in their life and why they do what they do. Training with good, quality people will do that I guess”

Dr. Gonzales and many more Active Release® doctors plan on being at the Kona Ironman® Championships later this year.

Bike 112 miles! Run 26.2 miles! Brag for the rest of your life." The 70.3 series is half of this full race.
