Function Training Summit in Long Beach

I just came back from the Function Training Summit in Long Beach, CA put on by Perform Better and I must say there are tons of great new ideas out there. I believed this before but I am going to say it again... "The Joint by Joint Approach to the Body" by Mike Boyle and Gray Cook makes perfect and complete sense.... and it does also to many of our patients.

People are always looking for answers about why they have the injuries they do, such as a knee or shoulder pain... when you start to look at the human body as an alternating series of mobile and stable joints it is easy to see why a football player who taped his ankles all year will blow his knee out at some point in the season or a baseball player who sits in class all day throws his arm out.

You need mobility of the ankles, hips, thoracic spine and neck before you can do any type of stability training, like core.... there is no point.

Anyways after going to the seminar and reaffirming all of our core principles of the human body, we want to let you know that we are even more "fired up" about getting each and every person we see out of pain and then correcting the CAUSE of the injury in the first place.

We are in the business to make dangerous athletes and there is no way just a "band-aid" is going to fix the infection below.

New IT Band Video

Dr. Cris Barkmeier has added a new injury video on a running injury called IT Band Syndrome or Iliotibial Band Syndrome. It is very common among runners, especially one's who increase their mileage in a short amount of time. Only about 4 minutes long... it is worth a look

Have a Golfing Injury? Get it Fixed!

Having Back Pain on the Back 9?
Waking up sore from yesterdays round with your buds?
Have Tennis Elbow?

Read this and it will change your life!

Golf puts a tremendous amount of stress on different part of your body and the most common reason for a player to give up the game is due to injury. There are things you can do to prevent yourself from an early retirement though.

The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) has developed a Golf Fitness Screen targeted at finding different physical limitations. These limitations often when combined with poor swing mechanics can cause a build-up of scar tissue, muscle spasm, and pain.

So what do I recommend?

1) Find TPI Medical provider who is also an Active Release Technique (ART) provider in your area. They can help get rid of the pain and scar tissue making strengthening and playing even possible. Many times it can take as little as 4 visits.
2) Get with a TPI Golf Pro. Many times your pain can and will come back without correcting the poor mechanics that caused it in the first place.
3) Get with a TPI Golf Fitness Trainer. Strengthening will help prevent the injury from coming back and help you play better as well.

This is the same type of program PGA tour players use and it works, so there is NO reason to be dying of pain on the back 9!

At Orange County Pain Management, our TPI Medical Providers work in close affiliation with TPI Golf Professionals and TPI Fitness Trainers. This gets you the best care possible to decrease your pain and better your game.

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR OUR 4 WEEK GOLF FITNESS SEMINAR STARTING ON SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 5TH.

Currently we are in negotiations of a few different locations, but hopefully soon we will have a perfect area pinned down that will accommodate our patient base.

Newport Beach will be very accessible from a number of major freeways and hopefully will be central hub for all of our patients.

As always we will be supplying you with Active Release Techniques®, Chiropractic care and Injury Rehabilitation, on the highest level.

Get an ART provider for your place of work

Worker’s Compensation Solutions

An employee on site injury is a major concern of many employers today and for good reason; there are two events, which follow an injury occurrence. The first is recording the incidence with OSHA and the second is dealing with Worker’s Compensation and the loss of an employee’s time on the job.

In 2002, OSHA changed its record keeping rules regarding injuries; now injuries only requiring first-aid is no longer a recordable injury (29 CFR 1910.1907.7). As of this point in time, the only recordable events are ones which have a loss of consciousness, loss of time at work, restriction of work, transfer to another job, or require medical care. OSHA does go into great detail about what is considered “first-aid,” but one might be surprised what is considered first-aid. A number of employers will pay out-of-pocket to provide approved first-aid in an effort to decrease costs of Worker’s Compensation and OSHA recordable injures.

The Solution to Worker’s Compensation Claims

One of the best and most effective “first-aid” treatments approved by OSHA is Active Release Techniques® (ART®), in fact OSHA has designated it a “best management” practice. ART® treatment is powerfully effective; most injuries can be completely resolved after 3 – 5 treatments, taking about 15 minutes per treatment. 1 The treatment can be provided on the jobsite and afterwards, the patient is fully capable to return to full, unrestricted job duties.

The Cost of Worker’s Compensation Claims

In California in 2004, each worker’s compensation claim over 7 day’s duration was estimated to cost $29,745.2 As stated before, worker’s compensation claims become so costly for the employer because of everything that come along with the injury: time off work, loss of productivity, hiring and training new employees, as well the medical care and training the employee may need during the reintroduction into the work place. As you can see, many of the costs may not be seen at first glance, but regardless, the businesses bottom-line is effected tremendously. ART® treatment is a very effective method of side-stepping these costs. A study was conducted with one business which contracted with ART® in 2004, the results showed an 81% decrease in worker’s compensation costs within 4 year period.1

In hard economic times, you have to think about cutting cost or being more efficient to survive.
